Mold & Hyperbaric Therapy

Mold & Hyperbaric Therapy
Mold illness is relatively common but is often misdiagnosed. When a patient presents with mold toxicity symptoms, it can often look like a wide variety of other chronic conditions;and because most doctors have limited experience with mold illness, they rarely consider it when diagnosing patients. Also, not every one who lives in a moldy environment may experience symptoms, which makes the diagnosis even more of a challenge.
If left untreated, mold illness can become chronic, even when the patient escapes the moldy environment. In some cases of severe mold toxicity, the exposure can prove fatal.
Symptoms of mold illness vary across a wide spectrum, but some of the more
common signs include brain fog, ADHD-like symptoms, whole body aches, upper respiratory congestion and infections, mood swings, pain in the ears, hair loss and difficult breathing.
Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy can help mold illness in many ways. HBOT can stimulate superoxide dismutase, an important antioxidant, which can help the body flush out the mycotoxins left in the tissues from mold spores. HBOT can also help in the treatment of mold infection by enhancing white blood cell action and enhancing the outcome of antibiotics.
The anti-inflammatory power of being in the hyperbaric chamber can help reduce the painful symptoms in the ears, lungs, respiratory tract and in the muscles.
Hyperbaric Oxygen Reduces Aspergillus fumiga-tus Proliferation In Vitro and Influences In Vi-vo Disease Outcomes

Recent estimates suggest that more than 3million people have chronic or invasive fungal infections, causing more than 600,000 deaths every year.

Aspergillus fumigatus causes invasive pulmonary aspergillosis (IPA) in patients with compromised immune systems and is a primary contributor to increases in human fungal infections. Thus, the development of new clinical modalities as stand-alone or adjunctive therapy for improving IPA patient outcomes is critically needed. Here we tested the in vitro and in vivo impacts of hyperbaric oxygen (HBO)(100% oxygen,>1 atmosphere absolute [ATA]) on A. fumigatus proliferation and murine IPA outcomes. Our findings indicate that HBO reduces established fungal biofilm proliferation in vitro by over 50%.The effect of HBO under the treatment conditions was transient and fungistatic, with A. fumigatus metabolic activity rebounding within 6 h of HBO treatment being removed. In vivo, daily HBO provides a dose-dependent but modest improvement in murine IPA disease outcomes as measured by survival analysis.
