Healthy Aging & Hyperbaric Therapy

Healthy Aging & Hyperbaric Therapy
As the body ages, tissue begins to break down faster than new cells can repair it.

The production of collagen, the protein involved in giving skin its elasticity and firmness, slows down a little more each year, after the age of 20.
The brain also changes over its lifetime. The total volume of the brain shrinks approximately 5% per decade after the age of 40.
How Hyperbarics Can Help:
Hyperbaric therapy may be a valuable modality in anti-aging efforts.
A randomized controlled clinical trial of 63healthy older adults showed that hyperbaric therapy appeared to induce cognitive enhancements by positive changes in cerebral blood flow. Increased oxygenation to the brain may support neurological function and overall health.

Hyperbaric therapy has been proven to increase the body's ability to create stem cells and collagen which may help an aging patient keep a more youthful appearance. HBOT has also shown to be a useful tool to support the immune system, which could help prevent illness in an aging pa-tient. Thanks to the ability of hyperbaric therapy to up-regulate anti-inflammatory genes and down-regulate inflammatory genes,a patient may experience less physical pain as they age.

Abstract~ The aim of this study was to evaluate hyperbaric oxygen therapy's (HBOT) effect on cognitive functions in healthy aging adults. A randomized controlled clinical trial randomized 63 healthy adults for three months...

The most striking improvements were in attention and information
processing speed.Voxel-based analysis showed significant cerebral blood flow increases in the HBOT group compared to the control group in the right superior medial frontal gyrus (BA10),right and left supplementary motor area (BA6), right middle frontal gyrus (BA6), left middle frontal gyrus (BA9), left superior frontal gyrus (BA8)and the right superior parietal gyrus (BA7).In this study, HBOT was shown to induce cognitive enhancements in healthy aging adults via mechanisms involving regional changes in CBF.

The main improvements include attention, information processing speed and executive functions, which normally decline with ag ing.
